The diagnoses and consultancy department

Various support services are available in preschools, such as special needs education, early intervention, diagnoses, consultancy and seminars.

Special needs teaching

The aim with special needs education in preschools is to ensure that children can enjoy their stay and receive a diverse education that considers the needs of each child. Preschools are responsible for ensuring that all children in need receive special education.

In each preschool there is a Head of Special Education, that serves as a professional supervisor of the school's special needs education. Special needs education and teaching consultants serve as contacts for children.

In some cases, a child might have to get support out of the preschool, for example for occupational, physical or speech therapy. Applicants should send requests to the Divisional Manager of the Diagnoses and Consultancy Department. See also THE BRIDGE.

Psychological services

Preschool psychologists perform observations on preschool children and consult with preschool staff and parents. Requests for psychological services should be sent to the preschool Head of Special Education on a special form, that is jointly filled out by parents and preschool. Parents' approval for requests is always a prerequisite.

Speech pathology services

Speech pathologists perform observations on preschool children and consult with preschool staff and parents. Requests for observations by a speech pathologist should be sent to the preschool Head of Special Education on a special form, that is jointly filled out by parents and preschool. Parents' approval for requests is always a prerequisite.

Upbringing - PMTO Parent Management Training and SMT School Skills

PMTO stands for Parent Management Training - Oregon Model, which is a model for parents and others involved with upbringing. PMTO is an evidence-based model that reduces behavioural problems of children and teenagers and reinforces parents in their roles. Diverse remedies, seminars and consultancy are available for parents.

SMT School Skills is a comparable model as PMTO which places the focus on preventing and reducing behavioural problems.
