Halló Hafnarfjörður - a gift to newborns in Hafnarfjörður

35 new residents of Hafnarfjörður have been born since the beginning of the year


From 1 January 2022, newborns in Hafnarfjörður will receive a symbolic and beautiful gift from their municipality. The gift is part of efforts to further promote Hafnarfjörður as a family friendly community and officially welcome newborn Hafnarfjörður residents into this world. Soon after the birth of their child, parents receive a postcard from the township which they must bring along when the gift is collected. 35 new Hafnarfjörður residents have already been born since the beginning of the year. Parents of January children will receive a message about the gift in the next few days.

5O5A6280The first newborn Hafnfjörður resident of the year, Eyþór Árni Matthíasson, was born on 1 January. His parents are Alma Jónsdóttir and Matthías Árni Ingimarsson.

"Hafnarfjörður is a family-friendly town and all our decisions and actions are aimed at providing good services to residents of all ages. With this beautiful gift, we would like to warmly wish new parents sincere congratulations on the newborn and at the same time welcome the child into the world. Hafnarfjörður offers great opportunities for health promotion, experience and entertainment for all age groups. With the gift, we also want to point out to families especially the services that are available to them in the town ", says Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, mayor of Hafnarfjörður.

On deciding the contents of the gift, environmental considerations, i.a. utility value and gender neutralism, were used as the guiding principle.

The gift, contains clothing,  an overall, a hat, socks and a bib that bears the inscription "Halló Hafnarfjörður", a teddy bear and two books, one for the parents and the other for the child. Parents of newborns in Hafnarfjörður receive a postcard from the municipality with an invitation to collect a gift in the children's department of Hafnarfjörður Library,  the perfect place for new parents to get together for reading, education, relaxation and chats. The postcard also contains a QR code that leads parents to a page on the town's website with information in both Icelandic and English about the services and possibilities available to children and families in Hafnarfjörður. Information about hiking and cycling routes, playgrounds, places of interest in Hafnarfjörður, daycare, kindergartens, events and more.
