12. Oct 2021 : Autumn brake in Hafnarfjörður

On Friday and Thursday, 14th and 15th of October, there will be an autumn break in Hafnarfjörður's primary schools. These days there will be free entrance fees to Hafnarfjörður's swimming pools, both for children and adults. The swimming pools in question are Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug og Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar.


11. Oct 2021 : The first shared car has arrived in Hafnarfjörður

The first Zipcar, a shared car, has arrived in Hafnarfjörður and has already become accessible to interested residents and employees of companies in Hafnarfjörður. The shared car is parked in a marked parking lot on the corner of Fjarðargata and Linnetsstígur in the town center. Residents book the car, pick it up and return it to the same place in the same parking space. The shared car is a great addition to the diverse transport options available to the residents of Hafnarfjörður.


6. Oct 2021 : Tónagull – Music Workshops in Polish This Winter

In collaboration with Tónagull, Hafnarborg will offer weekly music workshops for Polish speaking children and parents this winter, starting Sunday September 19th.

Tónagull is a research-based music workshop method founded by Helga Rut Guðmundsdóttir, professor in music education, in 2004. The workshops are designed to fit the needs of infants, 0-3 years old, and their parents. The workshops have a playful formula, with the aim of engaging musically both the toddlers and the adult participants, through songs and rhymes in the participants’ native language.

A yellow weather warning is in effect today Tuesday 28 September from 13:00 - 23:59. The decision to accompany a child to and from school or extracurricular activities, during poor weather conditions, is always at the discretion of the guardian. 


23. Sep 2021 : European Week of Sport 2021 started yesterday - take an active part!

The Health Town of Hafnarfjörður encourages residents and friends of Hafnarfjörður to take an active part by showing up at open exercises and open houses that are available to interested people of all ages these days. Come and try e.g. swimming, golf, cycling, skateboarding, badminton, table tennis, horses, gymnastics and running. Alone / alone or with the family.

16. Sep 2021 : Images of Mary – Help Recreate an Artwork

Is your name María? Do you live in Hafnarfjörður? Would you like to take part in an artwork?

At this time, Hafnarborg is working on a retrospective of works by artist Þorvaldur Þorsteinsson (1960-2013), called Long Are the Trials of Man. At this exhibition, one of the artist‘s works, Images of Mary will be recreated, but Þorvaldur first exhibited said work at a show in the Akureyri Art Museum in 1996. The upcoming exhibition at Hafnarborg is set to open on Þorvaldur‘s birthday, November 7th.


14. Sep 2021 : American football popular in Hafnarfjörður

In the spring of 2021, the team Einherji decided to start with the task of holding an American football tournament for the first time in Iceland for the age group 13-17. With support from Hafnarfjarðarbær the organizers were able to visit all the older classes in the town's primary schools, introduce the sport to interested young people and allow them to try it out. In the autumn of 2021, younger groups will also be introduced


14. Sep 2021 : The voter list and polling stations in Hafnarfjörður

The electoral roll in Hafnarfjörður for the parliamentary elections on 25 September 2021 is on display in the service center in Hafnarfjörður Town Hall at Strandgata 6 from 8-16. The electoral roll will be on display every working day from 15 September 2021 until and including Friday 24 September. 


7. Sep 2021 : Second dose of vaccination for children aged 12 to 15 years

This September the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to children aged 12 to 15 years. A guardian who requests vaccination for their child must accompany the child to the vaccination or send a substitute aged 18 or older with a letter of proxy. Children in 7th grade who turn 12 years old after 1 September will be offered vaccination later this autumn.

6. Sep 2021 : Have you used the Travel Gift?

All individuals with legal residence in Iceland, born 2002 and earlier, can receive a 5,000 kr. Travel Gift. The gift is a part of supporting Icelandic tourism following the COVID-19 epidemic, and encourage residents to have quality times while traveling domestically. The travel gift 2021 is valid from the date of issue until 30 September.
