Nestling in the heart of Hafnarfjörður, the Christmas Village offers a special opportunity to enjoy the festive season.

Icelanders really know how to make the Christmas season memorable: houses and streets are decorated with millions of multicoloured lights, families come together to prepare special treats for Christmas, and mouth-watering Christmas banquets are a must.

Hafnarfjörður, just a short distance from the capital, is a picturesque town set in the lava landscape, with its own relaxed and mellow atmosphere. Every weekend until Christmas, the Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður will be open, offering a wide selection of gifts, Christmas decorations and delicious foodstuffs. Live musical performances are on the program, as well as the opportunity to meet Iceland’s very own Yuletide Lads, thirteen mischievous Santa’s who are said to bring gifts to good children for the thirteen nights preceding Christmas Day and their mother is often seen in the neighbourhood.

For gift shopping, Hafnarfjörður has a large variety of shops, conveniently located in the compact centre of the town, adjacent to the Christmas Village, and the selection of excellent restaurants and cafés.

Hafnarfjörður offers a variety of activities such as horse-riding nearby, a walk through the hidden elven communities, guided by a local psychic, or a genuine Viking-Age banquet-these activities must be booked ahead of time. Hafnarfjörður also has a number of interesting museums, such as Sívertsen House, the early 19^th-century home of Bjarni Sívertsen, known as the father of modern Hafnarfjörður.

Hafnarfjörður the warm-hearted town in the lava is conveniently located just outside the capital, Reykjavík. Only a short distance away from the famed Blue Lagoon spa, were visitors can relax in healthy mineral-rich waters.

The Christmas Village opens on the 24^th of November and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00-18:00 until Christmas. Live entertainment at 14:00 every opening day. On the 23^rd December the Christmas Village stays open to 22:00 with a concert at 20:00.
